To Josephine

This particular poem was dedicated to his foreign lover Josephine Bracken whom among the past lovers of the national hero sought for marriage. It can tell how Rizal loved this lady so much that they even bear a child and how he was committed to Josephine even when he was exiled. Their love story is so heart warming how these two love birds started their love affair.

Josephine, Josephine
Who to these shores have come
Looking for a nest, a home,
Like a wandering swallow;
If your fate is taking you
To Japan, China or Shanghai,
Don't forget that on these shores
A heart for you beats high.
